You're description about downloading doesn't make sense.

A download is the software pulling data from the VX3.
An upload would be taking the downloaded "template"
from the VX3 download, making modifications, then
uploading that template or "img file" back into the VX3.

With that in mind could you make perfectly clear as to what
part of the process you are having a problem with?

Uploading data TO the VX3 or Downloading the data FROM the VX3.
The Chirp software is really as unintimidating as can be so just chill
out and things should become more apparent. Someone here on the
list can always help you work the kinks out where they be a software
or hardware issue or you just not understanding the three basic steps
of communications with your radio and PC.

Subject: [chirp_users] New to list and a question

Hi list members!

Mike Lubrecht here from Snohomish County, Washington.  I’ve just started using Chirp to attempt to coordinate the programming on some of my small HTs.  I successfully programmed my Baofeng UV-5R, and was able to upload from my Yaesu VX-3 (not the “R” model.)  Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to download anything successfully to the Yaesu unit, after carefully following the sequence to put the radio into clone mode and wait for the download from my computer.

Am I missing anything? I believe my drivers are all up to date. And since I was able to upload from the Yaesu, I’m assuming that the cable and drivers were working. Any hints would be greatly appreciated. My hope is to clone the Baofeng and Yaesu, using appropriate inport/export (or just cutting and pasting parameters between .img files).

Thanks!

Mike
