Hi Tom,
If you do a:
sudo apt-get install chirp
You will get the latest release (0.3.3?). However, after you've done that, you should be able to download and run the latest chirp-daily. Download the file ending in .tar.gz, then uncompress it in your home folder. To run it cd to the directory you unpacked and type:
chirpw
