[chirp_users] Wouxun KG-UVD1P connection

I have been programming this radio on a PC with a radioshop888 usb cable and now wish to on a macbook lion osx.

Installed python and chirp OK.  Tried the latest prolific driver, terminal commands show it installed but network preferences only allow configuring it as a modem? 

Anyone got the details on how too get back on track?
