Intresting, I vote for that feature!

 From my point of view a date segment will be of great help, like this:

%(userinput).%(date).%(vendor)_%(model).img

The users tends to have some imgs over time and this way they can know 
the date of creation of it.

Examples:

dad_ht.20160616.Btech_UV-5R.img

dad_car.20160501.QYT_KT8900R.img

Looks nice to me...
