Selecting violet on mine just causes the display to be blue. It doesn't
seem to have any adverse effects, other than potentially user confusion
when they expect to get a violet color and don't.

Otherwise, it seems okay to me. Does anyone else have an 817 they can
test this with? If not, we might as well put it in the tree and get the
wider audience to look at it.
